We are Charles and Brianna Faust and our farm is a multi generational farm. Our three children (Arlan, Emric, and Draya) are the 4th generation to live on this farm. Charles is also the 6th generation to (crop) farm full time. You can say that farming is in our family's blood.
EMBRACE LOCAL, SEASONAL AND SUSTAINABLE FLOWERS
In the summer of 2018, Charlie and Brianna quit their office jobs to move to the 40 acre family farm to pursue farming full time. As Charlie was busy working the soybean, corn, and small grain fields, Brianna was at home updating their 1924 farmhouse and raising their tiny humans. A few years past, the home renovations started to slow down, the kids were starting to be independent, and our family was looking for ways to be together while also figuring out the best ways to use the land we have been fortunate enough to acquire.
Gardening felt like the next best step. In the spring of 2020, we directed seed a BUNCH of seed (both flowers and vegetables) in our .85 acre lot and watched what grew. While doing so, Brianna sold a small amount to the local farmers markets and gifted multiple stems of sunflowers to family and friends. Watching others get excited and joyful over the bunches of blooms that we grew was both encouraging and fun for us to see. It was also intriguing to find our much our kids loved it as well. We learned a lot that first year, and knew we wanted to become more serious about growing beautiful fresh cut blooms.
In 2021, we took things a little more seriously and grew many different varieties of cut flowers. The year was challenging with a MAJOR drought, no irrigation systems in place, and another baby due in the middle of the growing season. With all the obstacles, our love for growing and offering fresh cut flowers became more strong.
In 2022, we made the family decision to create an official flower farm and BACK FORTY FLOWER FARM was created!
Even though the farming history of our property and family go generations back, we are the first on the farm to have a specialty cut flower production, and we couldn't be more excited to offer local flowers to our local friends and others in our community and beyond.
It is important to us to provide the best blooms we possibly can grow. Our entire farm (corn, soybeans, etc. included) implements no-till farming practices. We focus on soil health and the importance of caring for the land and growing conditions.
We offer a wide array of flower varieties. Our annual flower crops are all started by seed by hand. We also offer a small array of perennial blooms which were either started by seed or bare root. Our hands care for every single seedling from the moment we receive them as seeds all the way to the time of cutting.
We don't use or spray any herbicides, pesticides, or harsh chemicals in our growing production which allows for our customers to enjoy beautiful blooms without any worry!
If you ever have any questions about they way our flowers are grown/cared for, please don't hesitate to contact us!
